The Square Meal Debate

On Wednesday late afternoon and evening some 100 people representing all bodies concerned with local food supply from the farming community, schools, supplier and retailers came together to discuss and call for action to highlight the benefits of local fresh food both to benefit the local economy, the environment and healthy eating.  I chaired the event and came away with many fantastic ideas to take forward in my role at the Dorset County Council of promoting the healthy active agenda.  The Dorset Health and Wellbeing Board can help communities working together with public health, children and adult services and the NHS.  There is an obesity problem in the County, and we have too many people requiring acute care – if we can try and prevent ill health through everyday changes in lifestyle, it will benefit us all.
